Trends in Evolutionary Robotics
A review is given on the use of evolutionary techniques for the automatic design of adaptive robots. The focus is on methods which use neural networks and have been tested on actual physical robots. The chapter also examines the role of simulation and the use of domain knowledge in the evolutionary process. It concludes with some predictions about future directions in robotics.
متن کاملNew Trends in Evolutionary Computation
In the last five years, the field of evolutionary computation (EC) has seen a resurgence of new ideas, many stemming from new biological inspirations. This paper outlines four of these new branches of research: Creative Evolutionary Systems, Computational Embryology, Evolvable Hardware and Artificial Immune Systems, showing how they aim to extend the capabilities of EC. Recent, unpublished resu...
متن کاملEvolutionary Trends in Rigid Body Dynamics
Certain evolutionary trends from analytical methods to a combination of analytical, computational and measurement methods are addressed in this paper. Implications of these trends in modeling, stability, actuation and control of multi rigid body systems are explored here. This approach makes use of recent technical developments in two areas. Electronic hardware is currently available for comput...
متن کاملEvolutionary Computation: An Overview and Recent Trends
Evolutionary computation is a steadily increasing research discipline covering computer algorithms that are inspired by principles of natural evolution. The three main mechanisms that drive evolution forward are reproduction, mutation, and natural selection (i.e., the Darwinian principle of survival of the fittest). In the biological world these mechanisms enable life-forms to adapt to a partic...
متن کاملEvolutionary trends in airway CO2/H+ chemoreception.
In many species of air-breathing vertebrates CO2-sensitive airway receptors play an important role in ventilatory control. In ectotherms, olfactory receptors often inhibit breathing and prolong breath holding when environmental CO2 levels are high. CO2/H+ sensitive pulmonary receptors (intra pulmonary chemoreceptors (IPC) and pulmonary stretch receptors (PSR)) regulate breathing patterns in all...
